Consilium

An open-source desktop harness for AI. Work with models running on your computer, provider command-line tools you already use, or direct APIs you choose to configure, and see which route answered.

Every request shows its route

Consilium scores only the routes you have actually configured, shows the order and the reason, and never switches to a metered API on its own.

Three kinds of route

Consilium does not sell model access. It connects to compute you make available.

Routing profiles

Choose manually at any time, or let a profile rank your configured routes.

How it behaves

Provider, model, reasoning, routing profile and agent controls are part of the conversation. If a chat route fails before any answer text, Consilium can try the next displayed route; once output has started it keeps the partial answer and reports the error rather than splicing in another model. Agent runs never switch providers.

The Tauri desktop app has the full provider catalogue, streaming Markdown, route explanations, history, agent mode, reasoning controls and attachments. The terminal interface is narrower: Grok CLI and an explicitly selected xAI API route through the same Rust streaming core, for SSH and terminal-first work. Transcripts and selections are stored locally; API keys are never written to history.

Downloads

GitHub releases include Windows NSIS and MSI installers and a portable ZIP, and Linux AppImage, Debian and RPM packages. The repository has source-build instructions and a local Flatpak recipe. Releases ship locked dependency notices and checksums.

Maintenance status, 9 October 2026The public release is 0.1.0. Security and reliability fixes are merged in source and 0.1.1 packages are in installation checks before publication. Check the repository's security and release notes when choosing a download.

Optional model hosts, provider tools and APIs have their own terms and charges; paying one never unlocks a Consilium feature, because there are no feature gates.
